Hi there! I’m Bas Land, also known as That Fabric Guy.

Ever since 2013, I’m hooked by the possibilities that Microsoft data analytics products offer. As a consultant, I have over ten years of experience, first in on-premises SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS and the likes, with reporting in Excel. Then Power BI came. Then Azure Data Factory and Azure SQL.

And nowadays Microsoft Fabric.

As a traditional SQL guy, I was… skeptical… about file storage on data lakes for data warehousing purposes. About using PySpark instead of SQL, about, well, yet another change proposed by Microsoft.

But, when I started experimenting with Fabric I was hooked right away. The things you can do with PySpark are amazing. A merge statement in SQL is, well, elaborate. In PySpark, it’s a few lines and BOOOM you’re a happy data engineer.

I. Love. PySpark.

That’s why I created this blog. To share my passion for the trade and to share knowledge and experiences.
